Want To Ace Professionally? Don't Do These Things At Work

All of us want to ace professionally, gain the trust of our colleagues and bosses, and get promoted quickly. Aside from doing your job responsibilities with the best that you can, here’s another list of your duties as a responsible company asset and as a good co-worker.

Here are the things that you should NOT do in the office:

Send Hasty Emails

No matter how sleepy you are, make sure that you proofread that email you’re about to send. Review if that attachment is indeed attached to the message. That’s a bad impression if you are always sending emails with grammatical errors, wrong recipients, missing files, or inappropriate message tone.

Do Drama Over The Phone

The office is not a place to argue with your partner, siblings, or family. Keep work and personal issues separate from each other. You don’t want to be a topic in the office when you’re not around. If you want to ace professionally and keep that professional image, take personal-related phone calls outside the office.

Be On Social Media

Office hours are for your job duties. If you want to ace professionally, you have to understand that the company pays for your time to focus on a task that is office-related. Scrolling down your social media feed is not your official responsibilities. It will make you distracted, less efficient, and more often not, you are prone to miss the important details in the task you are finishing.

Gossip

People who ace professionally are the people who others think of highly. They avoid having an unprofessional image such as gossiping about their other co-workers about their personal lives. They know when to participate in healthy discussions and when to disengage from nasty chats.

Come To The Office When You’re Clearly Sick

If you want to ace professionally, you should also know that coming for work when you are obviously sick is something that won’t be lauded even by your supervisors. It’s not a sign that you are committed to your work. You don’t want to be tagged as someone who spreads the virus in the office.

Grab Office Supplies For Personal Use

Companies with forty employees are reportedly spending at least $45 per employee in office supplies. Occasionally taking home sticky notes, marker pens, and reams of bond paper is definitely not a good thing. Don’t tarnish your image by being labeled an office supply hoarder by your co-workers.

Final Thoughts

Avoiding the above common unprofessional habits done by many can help you ace professionally. Your boss and colleagues will like you and chances are high that you’re going to be the first person they’re going to recommend for a higher position. Building a professional image is a skill that a lot of employees today are not prioritizing, yet it will take them to greater heights.
