Chasing Success : What Is It And Why Some People Are Opposed To It?
Most of us have already tried chasing success. When you heard the news of a friend becoming successful and rich because of cryptocurrency, the first thing that came into your mind was to follow what he did so you, too, can become successful just as he is. When you read that a friend became successful because he ventured into a certain business, you know it sparked the desire in your mind to try the same path.
Chasing success is common, but some people are opposed to this idea. Dreaming of being accomplished one day certainly should not be frowned upon, right? But chasing success is different than dreaming of success. Here are the reasons why most people don’t want to chase it.
Success Is Not The Same For Everyone
Different people have different definitions of success. For some, it means being able to follow their passion in life. For others, it’s about getting rich rather than being merely financially stable. For some, it means having a complete family. When the people we look up to attained their success, they kept in mind their own priorities and what they really want to achieve. If you keep chasing success, or rather follow other people’s path to success, chances are high that you are aiming for that goal which is not the same as yours in the first place.
Success Is Not Necessarily Happiness
Your own version of success is that one where you will be happy after all the hardships you are going to encounter. If you keep chasing success of others, you would most likely be miserable. You would most likely forget the real goal that you are aiming for in the start. You think that the success of others could make you happy. You see others happy and finally content because they have prized material possessions, but in reality, you are looking to find genuine relationships that will last for a lifetime. You see others happy because they finally have their dream lifestyle, but in reality, you are looking for something more than materialism.
When You Chase Success, You Are Delaying Your Accomplishments
When you follow the path of others, you are not only delaying your own success but might also be sacrificing important relationships along the way just to ‘keep your eyes on the wrong prize’. You might be working hard to get to the top of the social ladder but your relationships with your family and significant other are suffering.
Final Thoughts
Instead of chasing success, define clearly what your goals are. Keep in mind the things that you don’t want to let go of and those which you are willing to compromise to make progress. Most importantly, choose the things that will make you happy. Success and happiness can come together if you follow your own unique path.
