Can You Survive A Shopping Ban? A Few Important Tips To Do It Right

Everybody loves shopping, even more now almost all shopping malls and brands have their presence online at everybody’s fingertips. All you have to do is browse, add to cart, and hit the checkout button. Wait for a few days and all your stuff will come knocking on your door. There’s that feeling of excitement knowing that your purchase is on the way and another feeling of satisfaction when you’re unboxing your package.

It’s contagious and at the same time, it can drain your bank in just a matter of a few minutes if you’re shopping nonstop.

Most people go on a shopping ban for a month to curb this and save money - that is, they don’t buy anything other than necessities for a month.

I’m Up For The Challenge! What Do I Need To Do?

Think you can do the same?

Here are some of our tips to survive a shopping ban.

  1. Delete your shopping apps.

  2. Unsubscribe from promotional emails.

  3. Avoid going into stores. (or avoid the mall if possible)

  4. Make a list of necessities and stick to that.

  5. Skip marketing campaigns on your social media accounts. Scroll down and don’t bat an eye.

  6. Stick to your weekly savings and money goals.

  7. Avoid shopping conversations with friends and family.

  8. Clean your closet. You’ll find stuff that you bought before but haven’t used yet.

  9. Unfollow fashion bloggers (or mute them from your social media feed for a while).

  10. Get other hobbies so you can avoid online shopping temptations.

  11. Find a friend who will go on a shopping ban with you as well.

  12. Look for a good side hustle to divert your attention from shopping.

Final Thoughts

The key here is to avoid temptation at all costs. Imagine saving a few hundreds of dollars every month just by following these pieces of advice. Most of our shopping tendencies will result to impulse purchases anyway and more often than not, the items you’d buy are repeat items or stuff that you don’t really need. Marketing tactics are clever for making you buy something that you thought you needed.

Your wallets and bank accounts will thank you after this!
